What Is A CDFA®?

Professional financial guidance for the full scope of divorce.

What is a CDFA®?

Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®

A Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) specializes in the financial issues surrounding divorce. A CDFA® can act as a financial neutral/mediator for you and your spouse or, if you can’t resolve your issues without attorneys, the CDFA® can work as an advocate on your divorce team, providing financial analysis and support to your case. A CDFA® uses his or her knowledge of tax law, asset distribution, and short and long-term financial planning to achieve an equitable settlement.

Divorce Financial Planning

As a CDFA® we help our clients with all the financial issues surrounding divorce. This includes:

  • Understanding Cash Flow and future needs
  • Identifying Personal vs. marital property
  • Valuing and dividing property
  • Retirement assets and pensions
  • Splitting the house
  • Tax problems and solutions
  • Spousal and child support
  • Tax law and financial issues affecting divorce

Our Simple 5 Step Process

Initial Consultation

At our initial meeting we will learn about your situation, answer any questions you have, get clarity on the desired outcomes, and decide how best to move forward. At this meeting, we will review fees for service as well as review the documents and information you will need to gather.

Data Gather and Clarify

Once you have gathered all of your documents and forms, we will meet to review the information as well as discuss your current and future concerns and most pressing financial information. Depending on how we are being engaged, we will meet with one or both spouses at this stage.

Develop

Depending on your needs, our team will create summaries and reports to help you understand your overall situation as well as potential options. We may work with you on budgeting or organization of your financial data. We will review tax implications of settlement options as well as projections of longer term financial forecasts.

Findings and Options

We will discuss our findings and make adjustments as necessary. We are available to consult as you move through the process with your attorney or mediator.

Documentation

Once settlement terms are agreed on, documents can be created by a family law attorney.
